Oligospermia (Low Sperm Count)

A low sperm count is a common reason couples struggle to conceive. Ayurvedic care, diet and lifestyle changes can support men's reproductive health alongside medical treatment.

Overview

What is low sperm count?

Oligospermia means there are fewer sperm in the semen than normal, usually less than 15 to 20 million per millilitre. It is a common cause of male infertility.

Most men have no symptoms. It is usually found through a semen test when a couple is trying for a baby.

The Ayurvedic view

Ayurveda relates it to weakness or loss of shukra dhatu (the reproductive tissue). Imbalanced pitta dosha is seen as a key factor.

  • High-fat food
