Obesity (Medoroga)

Extra body fat raises the risk of diabetes, heart disease and joint pain. Ayurveda supports steady weight management through diet, activity and kapha balance.

Overview

What is obesity?

Obesity means too much fat is stored in the body. It happens when we take in more calories than we burn, and the extra is stored as fat.

Obesity is a health problem on its own. It also raises the risk of heart disease, diabetes, liver damage, arthritis and kidney problems.

The Ayurvedic view

Ayurveda calls it medoroga, linked to aggravated kapha dosha. Care aims to calm kapha and clear the fat-carrying (medovaha) channels.

How Dr. Varun approaches care

  1. 1

    Consultation

Dr. Varun listens to your symptoms, history, food habits and routine, and looks at any reports or medicines you already take.

  2. 2

    Assessment

Nadi pariksha (pulse) and Prakriti (body type) assessment help him understand your individual balance.

  3. 3

    Your plan

Where suitable, a personal plan may combine diet and routine changes, classical Ayurvedic medicines and, for some people, Panchakarma.

  4. 4

    Follow-up

Progress is reviewed and the plan adjusted, at the clinic or on WhatsApp.

Home remedies

From the family kitchen

01

Warm lemon-honey water

Mix one teaspoon of lemon juice, one teaspoon of honey and a pinch of black pepper in a cup of warm water. Take twice a day on an empty stomach.

02

Three-spice powder

Mix equal parts of long pepper (pippali), dry ginger (sonth) and black pepper powder. Take half a teaspoon twice a day with a little warm water.

Diabetics should avoid the honey drink unless their doctor agrees; the spice powder is heating, so people with acidity, ulcers or pregnancy should check with Dr. Varun first.
