Acne (Pimples)

Pimples that keep coming back? Ayurvedic care with Dr. Varun Dogra looks at the heat inside the body, not just the skin.

Overview

What is acne?

Acne happens when oil glands in the skin make too much oil and block hair follicles. It is common in teenagers, so Ayurveda calls it yauvanpidika.

It can appear on the face, shoulders, back and other oily areas.

The Ayurvedic view

Ayurveda links acne to an imbalance of all three doshas, mainly Pitta (heat). Heat toxins build up in the blood and deeper tissues, so care works from the inside, not only on the surface.

Causes

What commonly triggers it

Pitta imbalance

Excess body heat affects the blood and fat tissues.

Diet
